Tea Packaging Label Solution: Small Runs, Many SKUs
Tea packaging labels across many SKUs and small batches. Short-run printing, shelf life marking, and keeping colours consistent between orders.
1. Overview
Tea packaging comes in more forms than most food categories: single-serve sachets, stand-up pouches, tinplate and paper canisters, cotton-paper-wrapped cakes, and gift boxes, with economy and gift versions of the same tea often running in parallel. Labels have to deal with four things at once: many SKUs with small quantities per SKU, where plate charges and minimum runs do not spread; moisture, light and odour sensitivity, which the outer label has to survive; heavy copying of aged and single-origin teas, which calls for serialised codes and tamper-evident construction; and the prepackaged food labelling rules that band net-content character heights by pack size. This solution breaks the work down by pack format, covering face stock, adhesive, finishing and variable-data printing, and runs a proof before production.
2. Core Advantages
Small runs without plates: Spring-picked, pre-Qingming, grade variants, economy and gift versions each count as a separate design. Digital printing needs no plates and starts from a few hundred labels; a version change is a file change. Each SKU gets its own artwork with colour held by digital output plus spot-colour calibration, so small orders no longer need to be merged to hit a minimum.
Moisture and light handled at the material stage: The label sits on the outside of the pack, where warehouse humidity, shelf lighting and transit all land on it. Coated paper with matt lamination covers economy packs; synthetic paper or PET suits canisters and gift boxes for water and scuff resistance; foil-faced stock blocks light for long display under shop lighting. Green tea kept in cold storage gets a low-temperature adhesive that holds through frost on the way out.
Compliance checked in one pass: Product name, ingredients, net content, producer details, production date, shelf life, storage conditions, production licence number and product standard code are all required items. Net-content character height is banded by pack size, so we check it against your actual pack before layout; the licence and standard code fields keep fixed positions so batch changes do not need a new version.
One code per pack for age and origin: Aged and single-origin teas attract copies. Variable-data printing produces a unique code on every label that resolves to batch, origin and test records when scanned; a tamper-evident die-cut tears on removal and cannot be reapplied. You configure what the code returns; the label side is responsible for printing every code sharply, with readability sampled label by label.
Gift-box finishing and spot colour: Hot foil, embossing, debossing and spot varnish are combined to the gift positioning. Brand colours run as spot ink with a kept proof; restock batches are matched against that proof so colour holds across seasons.
Rolls ready for auto-applicators: For high-volume canister lines, roll slitting accuracy, die-cut depth and waste-web control follow the applicator's web path requirements, splices are flagged inside the roll, and unwind direction matches your machine's feed, so the line runs without on-site rework.
3. Applications
Single-serve sachets and stand-up pouches
Side labels and seal stickers on small sachets; film-face stock resists creasing, and the small type is proofed at final size before the run.
Tinplate and paper canisters
Full-wrap or half-wrap labels cut to the canister curvature, with adhesive matched to the canister surface so labels do not lift in storage.
Tea cakes and bricks
Batch seals and tamper-evident closure stickers over the cotton-paper wrap, one code per cake tied to its production batch.
Gift sets
Box-face label, inner-box spec label and grade label run as a set in matched spot colours, with separate artwork for outer and inner pieces.
E-commerce and case shipping
Case labels carrying the shipping-label zone, moisture warnings and batch traceability code, one label per case for scan-based goods handling.
Tea-beverage supply chains
Ingredient batch labels for stores and factories, scanned at goods-in, changeover and stocktaking, with a single spec across containers.
4. Process
Brief: pack format (sachet, canister, cake, box), SKU count and quantity each, cold storage or not, manual or automatic application, required declarations, QR code rules and brand colour references.
Design: face stock and adhesive chosen per format, die-line and layout drafts, a line-by-line check of required declarations and net-content character heights, then a proofing schedule and quote.
Proofing: digital proof or press proof, applied to the real canister or pouch; curved and cold-storage cases are tested under actual storage conditions, with colour and finishing confirmed on the piece.
Production: the run starts after the signed proof; printing, die cutting, slitting and inspection records are kept per stage, and serialised orders are sampled for scan readability label by label.
Delivery: rolls wound to feed direction and core size, sheets stacked by version, inspection records shipped with the goods, colour accepted against the kept proof.
Follow-up: proofs are archived so restocks and seasonal runs match the kept sample; printing or die-cut issues are traced to the specific stage with a written conclusion.
5. Technical Parameters (Customisable)
Item | Options / Notes |
|---|---|
Face stock | Coated paper (matt/gloss lamination), synthetic paper, PET, foil-faced stock, kraft paper, matched to pack format and display conditions |
Adhesive | Permanent, high-tack, low-temperature (cold storage), removable (temporary batch and promo stickers) |
Printing | Digital (no plates, variable data), flexo (better unit cost on large runs), spot colour; QR and barcodes variable per label |
Size and shape | Common 30×60mm, 40×80mm, 50×100mm; canister labels cut to curvature; rounded and custom shapes |
Anti-counterfeit and traceability | One code per label via variable data, tamper-evident die-cut, void-on-removal |
Finishing | Hot foil, embossing, debossing, spot varnish, hole punching |
Environment | Ambient shelf display, cold storage (0–5°C common for green tea, down to -20°C frozen), high-humidity rainy-season warehousing |
Minimum order | A few hundred labels for digital runs; flexo quoted per version on large runs |
6. Huaishi Service
Proofs on file: every SKU's approved proof is archived; restocks and seasonal runs match against it to keep batch colour in line.
Stage records: pre-press checks, printing, die cutting, slitting and inspection each leave a record, shipped with the goods, so any issue locates to a batch.
Equipment fit: labels are built to run with automatic print-and-apply equipment; roll slitting, waste web and unwind direction follow the machine's requirements so canister lines run directly.
Change control: changes to net content, ingredients or licence numbers go through written confirmation with a re-proofed sample, not verbal notes.
