With the PC42T Plus discontinued, Honeywell's successor is the PC42E-T. Interfaces and performance moved up slightly, and the price stays in the entry tier.
What to confirm when switching
Whether the old templates still work is the first question when changing models. The PC42E-T supports six command sets: FP, DP, IPL, ESim(EPL), ZPL-II and DPL. PC42T Plus templates generally carry across without rebuilding formats.
Media specifications continue as well: 5-inch rolls up to 127 mm OD, and both 0.5-inch and 1-inch ribbon cores. Consumables already in the stockroom are not wasted.
The economy trade-off
152 mm/s at 203 dpi, 127 mm/s at 300 dpi, print width 108 mm, media width 114 mm. Normal for entry desktop units and sufficient for routine logistics labels, price tags and asset markings.
The display is an LED plus an ECO button, without a colour screen. The ECO button calibrates with fewer labels consumed, which saves a little media where rolls change often.
At 222 x 184 x 174 mm the footprint is small. With 128 MB of memory and 128 MB of flash, routine templates fit comfortably.
Connectivity
USB and Ethernet both come standard. That is more than many models at this price, where USB alone is common and Ethernet costs extra or requires a different model. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are optional modules.
Where it fits
Station-level marking in small plants, inbound and outbound labels in back-of-store, office asset and document labels, and existing PC42T Plus owners due for replacement.
These buyers share a profile: budget-conscious, moderate volume, indifferent to specifications. The machine needs to avoid trouble, consumables need steady supply, and someone needs to answer when it breaks. The first two this model covers; the third depends on the supplier, and a local one is worth more than a cheaper distant one.
